Radhakrishan silk palace is a 30 year okd silk saree store based out of Hyderabad and has few branches in Andhra pradesh. The store offers Authentic kanchipuram sarees from their own handlooms with karigars who knows the craft of weaving traditional kancheepuram sarees. The store’s endeavour was to create an exclusive buying experience in the store for the unique sarees offered which are more in line with occasion wear, where the target customers are to-be-brides, socialites and movie stars who need privacy and also a pampered experience while shopping
The DESIGN STRATEGY was to create a store environment that appealed to a premium segment living in jubilee hills, and bring in the design sensibilities of the famous Indian temple town of Kancheepuram which is a traditional destination for saree buying. The core Design strategy was to bring the cumulative experience of the town of Kancheepuram’s regal history, art, craft and architecture in the new store. Design was used to address the customer’s emotive need to feel like a royal bride. To deliver this the design experience was conceptualized to reflect a “THE PALACE BOUTIQUE“
The STORE DESIGN is derived from the royal history and architecture of temples and homes of Kancheepurm. A neutral colour palette of greys with highlights of royal blue, gold and red in wall covering and soft furnishings help create the premium boutique environment. Indian art forms in elements like the ethnic Decorative trellis partition and furniture help create experience niches for each group of customers.
The store features a grand entrance which is treated to create an arrival lounge that has a formal seating arrangement. A free-flowing central aisle leads customers through the store past display points that present different product stories in the store and ending a feature wall at the far end of the store. To accentuate design the ceiling in the central aisle is treated with cove lights and patterns with red glass chandelier reflecting the palace interiors with grandeur.
The gold tissue curtains for each display niche gives privacy when needed and also adds glamour value to the space. The flooring is a combination of different textures with inlay of designer tiles at regular intervals to form an interesting Indian pattern. The display niches consist of wall units, floor units, customer seating. Decorative trellis partitions on either side to give the required privacy. The wall display is inspired from palace windows. Floral motifs and the intricate trellis art help create a perfect backdrop for the premium products. The store fixtures are designed in diverse forms for different categories and price points. Full length mirrors have been interestingly features in traditional swing like structure.
The VISUAL MERCHANDISING in the store is themed on the art of handloom weaving. A real traditional unit was placed to give customers the experience of weaving. Digital content complements this on an LED TV framed in a traditional decorative frame featuring fashion shows and also educative clips on the tradition of authentic kancheepuram saree weaving.
